Sit With Me // by Carolyn Kanjuro // illustrated by Nan Lawson

Sit With Me is a cute little book about a grasshopper that teaches young children how to properly sit during meditation and how to clear their minds.

After reading another children's book about meditation recently, I was excited to see this pop up also. I believe that it's important to teach children how to recognize and control their emotions, and meditation is a great tool on that journey. This book explains the proper position and posture in easily understood steps and explains why it will help you meditate correctly. The illustrations are fun and cute, but not overwhelmingly bright in a way that would distract from the message.

I thought it was nice simple rhyming text to prepare for meditation. I am going to try it in my kid's meditation class in May so my thoughts may change then depending on how the kids like it.

What a pleasant little book for the beginner mini-meditator! Super cute illustrations complement the text. I love how non-human animals are highlighted and shown as friends in the book. This book is a great way to introduce a child to mediation in a fun, attention grabbing way. You and the mini-meditator can use this as a guide to practice the steps as you read along.

My youngest loves pretending to be like Buddha, so this was a nice exercise in doing it even better. It's nice to meditate together.

This is a good basic instruction for meditation, although I'm not sure that a book is the very best medium for such instruction. The illustrations are charming and the instructions are well done. A good basic introduction to meditation for anyone.

Sit With Me is a wonderful picture book showcasing steps on how to meditate.

This is a valuable tool that I could have used back in the day. I wish as a kid people explained meditation and relaxation to me! I used to love head down times or Graveyard where we got to relax and listen to the sounds of what's around us. This is a simple book explaining how to sit and clear your mind. It's basic, simplistic and makes it easy.

The illustrations are also cartoony and incredible. I feel that they match the story really well and make it more inviting.

Four out of five stars.

Two things for this book. First, I really like the way it focus on the position, how to sit, and how it explain it all so well, choosing word and metaphor easy to understand and remember for children, that was great! My second point, less positive, was that it focus mainly just on the sitting position, not necessarily bad since it's an important part, but I find the title misleading and people could go into it searching or expecting an easy way to go meditate guide, and in itself, it ins't enough. Good basis, very well done, but if you really want to meditate and go even a tiny bit deeper, you will need another book, or tutorial or whatever.
