I mean I guess it was good. I wanted more MB & ART interactions. Also, this might be more of a fandom building up wrong expectations thing, but I think more page time could have been spent on MB coping with its trauma. Its sudden turnaround at the end that's related to it felt like it had no build-up and was instead written to be a neat happy ending. But that makes no sense because this isn't even the last book in the series.
Rogue B-E secunit make appearances in future books pls pls pls pls

Murderbot’s most human adventure yet. Always has me on the edge of my seat and is never long enough. I think this is the last book and I’m very sad about it but it feels like a good end to the story.

Oh, Murderbot, how I love each and every installment of your story. I’ve missed you, literary friend.

I particularly love the way that Wells has a slow burn to a big reveal around Murderbot (and other SecUnits’) mental/psychological state. Just fantastic.

Murderbot continues to be one of the most relatable characters ever. I loved that we got to see more of MB realizing that it might need (just a bit of) help with some of the trauma that it’s faced in its life but also not wanting to touch any of it with a ten foot pole. It was so nice to see ART and the crew again. I love the shenanigans that they get into (and that they drag MB into). And I’m living for the all the MB sass and sarcasm! It was just so nice to be back in this series! System Collapse is getting four out of five stars.

If you came here for more Murderbot, you sure got what you were after! System Collapse is a direct sequel to Network Effect, so you may want to re-read that book before diving in if you've forgotten what happened. Though we're back to novella length, this story is engaging with a satisfyingly Murderbot solution. I was excited by what the ending set up for future Murderbot adventures!

I love Murderbot!! It was very fun to pick up basically immediately where we left off, and there was a lot more to mine from this setting and scenario than I thought possible. Oh Murderbot, you are so distressed by the fact that everyone wants to be your friend.

My overall expectations were a little disappointed in this instalment of the Murderbot Diaries series.

I found the beginning a bit disjointed, unfocused and slow, with too many disparate things happening at once. From about midway the action picks up noticeably and there is better focus. The delectable full honesty and internal sarcasm of Murderbot also comes more into play.

I particularly liked Murderbot’s interactions with other sentient AI systems, bots and ‘sub-bots’. Then again, none of Murderbot’s interactions with humans seemed to be as deep or as psychologically impactful as in previous instalments. Nor, somehow, did the novel sparkle with the same intensity or with as much ‘joy of being sentient’.

Not unexpectedly, a bit of the author’s leftist identity politics and anti-capitalism features as well, but it’s not overpowering and easily ignored. My guess is these elements will date the most over time.

Nonetheless, I’m glad to have read it and fully recommend it to other Murderbot fans. I’m also hoping this novel is transitional to something a little different and more enticing in Murderbot’s next adventure.
