Not worth the money. Still didn't due justice to the characters I loved for years that were ruined in the last book.

I think this book was a horrible thing to do to readers who actually made it through the last few books of the series. I realize it wasn't intended to be a novel and I didn't expect it to be. But I was at least hoping for a series of short stories, something in narrative format, something worth paying the cost of buying it.
I wasn't expecting something that was essentially the same as the little comments at the end of the movie, "Bob went on to win two world champions. He and his wife are happy."

Literally just an alphabetical list of characters and their fate after the series ends. I only recommend for die-hard fans who care about every little character in the universe.

OK this was a pretty major let down and smacks of cashing in on fans wanting to know more, yet not putting in the time and effort to make it pretty good for the readers. This was not good.
Firstly it was so short that I had the whole thing read in 20 minutes. Don't be fooled by it saying 208 pages. Each person gets a page of their own and some of the entries are no more than a line or two. That's why you can get through it so quick. The second issue was that most of the people in the A-Z are people that I had never heard of. It left me wondering how bad my memory was if I was staring blankly at a lot of the names, but reading other reviews has assured me that other readers had the same problem. The book has that 'thrown together' feeling and I think it was rushed out without taking the time to make it something really cool.
Some of the entries were quite funny-Jane's being rather appropriate, and Bubba's was the one that got me sniggering. I did like the resolution for Pam, Sam, Sookie, Eric and especially Bill. A few of the entries were pretty sad though. But to be honest most were just bland and boring. To be honest, you should just ask someone who has the book to read out the best bits to you or just skip it altogether and leave Dead Ever After as your finishing point for the series.

This felt like a children's picture book (but they forgot the images during printing), with mostly short sentences for most of the cast that wasn't included in the finale. Can I say that 95 percent were characters I just didn't give fucks about?

I wish I’d read this right after finishing the series. Per reader’s requests, the author wrote about the future lives of all the main characters throughout the series.

Took me less than fifteen minutes to read. More of a glossary/epilogue that should've been attached to Dead Ever After.

Ugh, that took less than half an hour. Review to come, if I can summon the will.
Edit: One of the most disgusting, money-grubbing ploys I've seen in literature.
I want to be very clear. I borrowed After Dead from my library's ebook program. It was not worth the library’s funds to send it to me. It was not worth the .00001% of my internet bill that downloading it cost me. It was certainly not worth the 27 minutes, (including two refreshes because the page froze,) that it took to read. And I thought Dead Ever After was unsatisfying.
By the time I got to the first entry in this glorified appendix, my ebook informed me that I was already 16% done with the book. The table of contents alone is 10%. (The hardcover is 202 pages, which means 20 PAGES of this book is the table of contents.) Pretty much every character, minor or not, who’s still alive at the end of the 13th book is included in an alphabetical list. Each letter has a full page illustration in the original cover styles. They look fine, but that’s another 26 pages that don’t actually contain any writing. The final looks range from single sentences, (my favorite is “HANK CLEARWATER contracted gonorrhea”,) to a whole two and a half pages for Sookie.
Sadly, poor Hank’s fate is typical for the fare in this...novel? Pretty much every character is described as having a rocky relationship, divorce, tragic death, or personal disappointments. I know that’s how real life works, but the realism ship sailed approximately six words into Dead Until Dark. I don’t need to know Jane Bodehouse died falling off a toilet. It feels like Harris is tired of her biggest series, (no secret that she’s been done for several books,) and is torturing the characters and the fans out of spite.
Three points are all that kept me from giving this abomination zero stars:
I was actually wondering where Bubba ended up.
Kevin and Kenya finally got together and nothing bad happened.
Tah-dah!
And some points why this trash deserves no stars:
Amelia and Bob (used to be a cat) had a son Felix (cat) who grew up to work with big cats. Cats. Also they got divorced.
Tara and JB get divorced after he cheats. He dies in his nursing home having sex with an orderly.
“JOHN QUINN had many more adventures.”
“BARRY (HOROWITZ) BELLBOY... We may hear more about the rest of his life.”
“HUNTER SAVOY … He had many adventures after that.”
Get the picture? (At least Barry and Hunter got some bio. That is literally all there is for Quinn.) If you want to write spin-off series, great, but then don’t include them in this book. It’s cheap. And, I’m one of the few who liked Quinn and not even I want to see a party planning weretiger series. Terrible ideas.
