This sentence just floored me. I love all of The Locked Tomb series, but Nona is where I feel like we're really starting to see the themes of what forgiveness is, the way imperialism cannibalizes identity, what does it mean to heal in an unclean way, the emptiness of revenge, the uselessness of punishment as justice, and the power of love to (in the book's case literally!) turn you into someone else. And it's just so lovely. And it's just fantastically written. It's amazing how Muir can swing the wild tonal shifts of each book, but they all work so well together and give each protagonist such a unique voice.

I loved this. Harrow the Ninth is still my favourite of the series so far, but I loved Nona. Seeing the world through her eyes is refreshing and hilarious and heartbreaking. I love Cam and Palamades and Pyrrha and their little family. Muir writes about love and grief with a brutal delicateness. GtN is about love and duty and devotion, HtN about the grief love carries, and NtN combines both so perfectly.
This is a beautiful interlude between Harrow and Alecto, and I am glad this interlude came as a 500-page book of confusion rather than having to sacrifice some of this plot to fit it into another book. This book certainly won't be everyone's cup of tea, and it is very different from the previous two books. I loved it and can't wait to see what happens next.

I can't say I enjoyed this one as much as Gideon the Ninth, but I think I enjoyed it more than Harrow the Ninth.
I vaguely wish I'd gone and re-listened to the first two, but I don't think I missed much by not going back to re-listen. I likely will for Alecto the Ninth.
I did appreciate that there was more world building/filling in going on in this one, though I'm relatively tired of the flipping back and forth between plot lines that's been the style of the last two books. That may be an effect of listening to the book rather than reading.
