I think Paula Hawkins had a great idea for a story, but it felt very disjointed for me. It didn't live up to 'Girl on the Train' for me.

The concept of the book and the mystery intrigued me, however it was lacking in execution. There were way too many characters and timelines jumping around that I couldn’t focus on where I was. The writing was meh. I liked the witchy & solving the crime vibes. I liked it being this mystery surrounding all these women but I couldn’t even bring myself to finish reading it all. I looked up the ending myself!

Meh, long, confusing, not much really happened. Had the odd good moment.

Blech!!! Hated it. Too many characters. So confusing and just plain ol' bad. It took 2 months to get through this and I considered just putting it away without finishing but I'm not one to leave a book unfinished. I just wanted it over.

This one didn't keep my attention like Girl on the Train did. . . . . just ok.

Packed with unlikable characters, but a compelling story with interesting twists and turns.

Here we go again, same old, same old ....

Admittedly this was the BBC Radio 4 abridged version but I also read the kindle book sample.

Muddled narrators, muddled tenses (some 1st person, some third). Spent too much time working out who was narrating and their relationship and when; and eventually a predictable and uninspired conclusion.

But then the previous book was only 3 stars.

I finished reading this days ago yet I can’t stop thinking of how she said she was reading “The Secret History” in a flashback to 1993. That book, by Donna Tartt came out in 2004.

Way too many characters and flashbacks to keep track of.

Okay, it didn't have quite the grip on me that Girl on the Train did but a really good read. A lot of characters to learn, analyze, and flip between throughout the book. Kept my interest trying to figure out each character and the mystery behind the "drowning pool".
