I don’t agree with the premise that sensory preferences can be divided into four categories. What does liking early mornings, bright colours, spicy food, perfume, downhill skiing, and spinning rides have to do with each other? For me it’s: no, yes, a bit, meh, hell yes and hell no, respectively. That inconsistency makes it difficult to apply the remainder of the book.

However, that aside, I appreciate the premise that our sensory needs and experiences impact most of us more than we realise, and we will be happier if we find ways to have our sensory needs met within the context of our family/friends/colleagues having their sensory needs met too.

I also liked the recommendation that parents should adjust activities/spaces/expectations to meet their child’s sensory needs, with suggestions of how to do so, though parents of particularly sensitive or sensory-seeking kids) have hopefully figured that out already.
