I had a hard time getting into this one, but then I ended up really liking it.

Intense, riveting, anxiety-producing. Liked it but at the same time just wanted it to be over. Wouldn't necessarily recommend it for anyone who's been a victim of DA unless they're in a really good, and safe place now.

This book was predictable and the flash back became cumbersome. The end had a twist that I didnt expect but was not surprised by. That all being said the reality of Domestic Violence was accurately written about. The ending is all to common or even worse.

Given all the positive reviews of this book, I wonder if it packed a different punch when it was written. Was domestic abuse not a frequently written subject 20 years ago? Don't get me wrong, this book was ok. It held my attention and I was concerned for "Beth" and Robert. I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. But it wasn't a great book. It just read like an average Oprah novel, to be honest.

I spent the whole time that I was reading this book waiting for the other shoe to drop, and when it did, was I surprised at how it ended!

holy god. i loved this book. it was absolutely the most heartbreaking story but shoot. i’ll remember it forever and love beth and robert forever. anna q is fabulous at writing. i need more. i am hooked.

Occasionally I randomly grab from a large pile of books I've owned for ages and never read, just to see if I can whittle it down a little. I am suspicious of any book if I still haven't read after a considerable period of time, did I start it and toss it back at some point? When i began this one, I realized that I had read part of it before. This time I finished it, but the problem was obvious from the start. With a story about a woman and her son on the run from an abusive husband, who is a cop no less, it's all going to come to a climax at some point when you know the husband has to find them. So everything in between is just filler, really. And some of this filler got rather dull,I did not care a whit about her tepid romance with the Nice Teacher or her gal pal whose twin got run over by a tractor. I expected a couple of things to occur that will give the husband a clue to their location, and they did. It was completely silly the way the heroine then suddenly decides that she doesn't need to pay any attention to the woman who has organized her disappearance and wants her to move again. Already this character is on shaky ground with me for marrying and having children with someone who had already started to hit her, now I really think she's stupid. The character's attempts at justification are flimsy at best. And then the ending....well, most unsatisfying and not particularly believable.
