Three chapters in and I internally scolded myself as to why it took me this long to read Graham Greene. He is a virtuouso of the written word. I can’t wait to read more of his novels.

I listened to this one read by Colin Firth and...WOW! (Shout out to my friend Richelle for the recommendation.) I am now utterly smitten with both Graham Greene and Colin Firth. The novel itself is everything I look for in a good work of literature. Complex without being heavy-handed, well-crafted, and rich in meaning. There was an element of the plot that I found just too implausible to give this one the perfect five star score, but Colin Firth's performance is off the charts good. I'm looking forward to more Graham Greene and have moved Colin Firth's The King's Speech to the top of my Netflix queue.

This was an amazing audiobook to listen to. I apparently bought this on Audible sometime ago so someone must have recommended it but I can't remember who or why. But not knowing much actually made it a better read.

"This is a record of hate far more than of love."

Colin Firth beautifully narrates a present-day look at the post-affair situation between the narrator, a writer named Maurice Bendrix, and Sarah Miles who is married to a Henry Miles.

Don't read the blurb just listen to it!

The early part of the book, the love affair and employing the private detective, is brilliant. Sarah's diary is a great twist, though she comes across as a bit unhinged. The rest of the book, with all its musings on God, faith and Catholicism really don't mean much if you're not a believer. So on the Goodreads scale this book starts as a four star and slides down to a two star near the end.

Incidentally, this audio version is great - Colin Firth is the perfect reader for Graham Greene.
