honestly this does not deserve the dead parent club tag, but seeing how he's from the 1400s and his parents/sister being dead are a big thing for him, I'm gonna include it. for giggs, I guess.
overall, this was a fun read. I don't mind the liberties that the author took with his language, and overall found the idea of him coming to life to be really fun. I think that Griffin is a hoot and I enjoyed how free he was as a person. it really made me think about the constraints we've put on ourselves as a society not to be weird little freaks and that makes me sad. we deserve to be weird now and again damn!!
overall, I thought the plot moved way too quickly. I didn't expect him to become human that fast, or for the plot to go how it did. I have two other complaints that I'll give their own paragraphs now-
1. the "climax" like okay I will say the art theft being the huge climactic thing was not what I expected, though I saw it coming once we got to know one of the characters more. how quickly it doesn't even matter, though, is crazy. I definitely thought the little bit of drama at the end there was going to be a MUCH bigger deal. (spoiler, but I thought that Jason was going to be trying to bring the evil guy back, I was so confident, and low-key disappointed disappointed to have been wrong). the drama with the evil dude was soooo boring and unneeded at that point since we already had such dramatic moments.
2. the miscommunication is SOOOOO frustrating! literally almost screamed at my book and stopped it there because it's so stupid. while I do think if any book is going to be a miscommunication trope, it does make sense that it would be the one where they have a literal time-caused language barrier but still it's such a dumb one I got mad. What do you mean she's like "lets take a break" without any explanation and also why would you run away?? like brother ugh and WHY WOULD YOU TRUST A RANDO UGH
overall, it was cute and I will keep it because it was really funny, but it made me made. the plot itself is cute though and I like the art conservation, so idk a win ig?

This book was a little too cringey and odd for my liking. She's attracted to the statue in the first chapter. It didn't get any better.

The best part of this book is that it’s set in Chicago, at the Art Institute.
The first 100 pages are just cuckoo bananas, like girl a statue??? At your WORK?! Its far too insta-lovey for me to ever truly love, but they really matched each others freak so good for them I guess.
As a whole, it just fell super flat for me, not enough fantasy/history elements, relationship was barely cultivated, if at all, and not nearly enough knight in modern day I don’t understand the world hijinks were had.
I was entertained for parts of it so it’s not a complete loss.
Also how are you gonna get freaky on pg 40 then not again until 204?

Yall annoy me.

The premise is super cute, but it felt a little flat for me. Maybe instalove isn't a trope for me?
