As soon as Emily feels a tingle between her legs while looking at the statue of Sir Griffin de Beauford, I knew I should have put this book down. And I probably should have put it down again when Griffin declared, “[...] and at your temple, I shall worship.”
I knew this story was going to be silly—and that wasn’t necessarily the problem. I promise I went into it with an open mind, ready to embrace the absurdity. I can appreciate a playful, campy vibe, but this ended up being far cornier than I expected.
Emily, a conservator at the Art Institute of Chicago, unexpectedly brings a statue to life—a statue that was once human in 1428 but cursed into stone. There’s plenty of humour as Griffin adjusts to modern times, and I found it sweet how much he cared for Emily and wanted to do right by her, but the insta-love and the oddly rampant sexual tension just weren’t for me.

I couldn't handle all the unwise decisions the protagonist made. I know they're to drive the plot, but don't take that man back to the museum. That's literally the worst idea, and the point at which I had to stop.

I am pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. Especially since I almost put it down after about 3 pages (didn't really care for the heroine getting overly turned on by the sight of a statue). But I kept at it and found the rest of the book a lot of fun. I also enjoyed that the city of Chicago played an important part in the story too.
I also liked that the book dealt with the ramifications of a 15th century knight being released from his cursed statue. The Art Institute is concerned that their expensive new statue was stolen with no physical evidence left behind, Griffin needs to be checked out for weird Middle Ages diseases and then vaccinated for everything

I thought this was a really cute romcom, I could totally see it as a movie!
It’s a little cheesy, wraps up quickly, and you have to suspend belief as it’s fantasy set in the real world, but I would definitely recommend it and really hope there is another story in this world! It’s a fun and easy read which are my favorite.
Also as someone who grew up close to Chicago I appreciated a lot of the accuracy of the setting which is often gotten wrong in books

Medieval romance is generally not my thing. I lead with that as a good thing because I absolutely loved this story. It was so unique, and Griffin and Emily's relationship was just so darn delightful. But here's the thing - Griffin is a real knight who was long ago turned to stone. Emily has the statue of Griffin in her museum. She breaks the curse, and a real life Griffin is now in her life. I absolutely loved how this romance and connection developed. It was so sweet and wonderful, and it just brought me such joy. There was also some humor baked in, as well as some unexpected twists along the way. Thanks to the publisher for this giveaway copy. I loved being a part of this world for little while and just adored this one y'all!
