Good read but hard to stomach at times (I think it's meant to be) I have a daughter close to the age of this young lady and it was hard to think girls go through these things every day. I gave only 3 stars because it was hard to follow at times and a lot left unexplained. Definitely recommended read.

I really like this book. at first i was scared to keep going after starting because i didn’t know how deep it was going to go but i am happy i finished it. This book touched so REAL REAL points about older men, police, parents, so much. I am also glad I read the authors notes as well.

This sheds light on how easy it is for children to get preyed on and manipulated by pretty lies. Ugh I really felt for enchanted as the blamed is unfairly placed on young black girls in these situations. People question minors about being “fast” or “too grown” when it should be on the adults who should and do know better. I didn’t like that the she was made to question her own sanity by the investigators after going through such traumatic events.

I’m struggling giving this 5 stars because it makes me feel like I’m supporting the content/context. So perhaps that is a reflection of how well the author told the story. I was overcome with emotions — feeling sick, angry, in disbelief, confused, and like I shouldn’t be reading this book because it felt so real. I was triggered because I could see the manipulation and the wrongfulness of the relationship and abuse of trust/power/person. I don’t know that I’ve ever felt this way after reading a book. I don’t know if or how to recommend this book . . . because I understand the importance of telling this story and it will surely stir you but it is beyond difficult to make it thru.

Be safe!

OH CHILE!

Tiffany D. Jackson is slowly becoming another one of my favorite Black authors. This book.. man.. as a Black woman this hit hard. Definitely a bit of triggers in it, but what a wild ride of a story about Black girls and women having to be caregivers to younger siblings and family members, disrespected, sexualized and everything else negative.

Oh and adults who manipulate and hurt children as abuse of power.

I almost didn't buy and read this book, but I'm glad I did and I will definitely be reading more of Tiffany D. Jackson's books.

Whew!

Tiffany Jackson never misses for me. Tense, compelling, upsetting. Great "companion read" for The Project imo.
