Although writing improvement from Eragon days...still felt like any other space opera (alas Alien) out there...derivative mood and lags.

This book was decent. It is a super detailed world building sci-fi adventure. It was too detailed for my liking. There were a lot of things I liked about this book (most of the characters, the appendices, the ending, the overall broad story) but I'm my opinion it just moved too slow.

I really enjoyed the new universe that Paolini has created and I'm excited to see if there are future installments! If you enjoy science fiction with lots of action and detailed world-building, then I highly recommend this one.

This book was excruciatingly long for absolutely no reason. I did enjoy the first maybe 15% of the book and generally felt interested in what was happening. Unfortunately, I felt that the book was a wash rinse repeat for every single part of the excursion. The chapters blurred together because of this and it was agonizing having to basically re-read the same thing with the same outcome. Characters were fine not the greatest, I didn’t really feel any attachment to them nor did I care what happened to them except for Trig. The ending just kind of felt like a wash of everything I had just read.

This is one of the best SF books that I have read in the last years. The plot freely borrows elements from the genre, which results in an exciting and original mix. When things began to escalate in a big way I was wondering how on earth the author could bring everything together. I didn't have to worry, the ending was great and the icing on the cake.

The book has its flaws. Some passages drag along too much (especially the action scenes) and skipping pages is dangerous as some important things happen along the way.

4.5 stars rounded down. Highly recommended.
