I was intrigued by the story but I do think it was waaaayyy too long. Like this definitely was a bit of a struggle for me to get through because a bunch of stuff would be happened and the plot would be moving along and then it would be like a ‘cutscene’ to explain something for like 40 pages that didn’t really need to be explained

This book is HAAARD. not hard in the case of "it goes hard" more like hard in the sense of, hard to read, grasp, and understand. As someone that is not only NOT into sci-fi but also barely understands it, this author does a good job of making the story digestible for me BUT only on certain parts. Any time it came to interstellar travel, the inner workings of the ships or the stations, the roles of certain job title, I was lost af. The story is VERY slow paced and only picks up at about 70% into the book. And then when it finally picks up and ends, it leaves you asking urself if what u read really truly just happened. The whole ending was a shitshow if you ask me. And if it wasn't for the amazing characters and the middle of the story where it did get good, I wouldn't have rated this book as good as I did.

The main character, Kira is very likeable and refreshing and I loved her up until the very end. The side characters are amazing and can hold up on their own honestly. For a interstellar war set in space, it wasn't realistic for all the characters to survive but im glad they did😊

I pre-ordered this book because I remembered reading the Inheritance Cycle as a young adult and was excited to support an author who had written such an influential series.

This, for sure, is an extremely long book. At nearly 900 pages in the hardcover edition it is a journey of great complexity. I will admit that it took some time for me to get rolling in the book and it is certainly a slow burn, but as the momentum picked up I was pulled along at full speed. I'm sure I missed many of the subtleties on my first reading, but even with that I was engrossed by the ending. The plot flew along as the ending came closer and closer. All in all, I would recommend it as a great new sci-fi novel.

This was one of the best sci-fi books I've read in a while. I'll admit parts of the book were a little slow and a few aspects of Kira's story were a bit weak but the plot as a whole was fantastic. The character development was on-point and the conclusion was satisfying when paired with the world-building that took place throughout the book. Christopher Paolini did an excellent job of establishing a fascinating universe with unique alien introductions. Although a few aspect were missing, and I wish the alien cultures could have been explored more, I loved how unique the creatures were. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone looking for a solid sci-fi adventure book with cool aliens and an awesome female lead.
