Some things I enjoyed. Some things I didn’t. Paolini is so good at constructing a world, this future seemed so realistic and well defined (and I love that there’s a whole timeline in the back of the book). On the negative side there are some pacing issues and some parts of the book felt slow. I’m also not a huge fan of the way he writes action, I don’t know why, but I found myself really enjoying the strategising and then getting bored once the explosions started lol

I was NOT prepared for the curveball in the beginning. Super creative concept though m.

I read this as part of the Shelf Space Olympic Readathon, for the Ares prompt, which called for a book that featured military themes and warfare. I took the opportunity to delve into the science-fiction world, but I'm not certain I picked the best book to start with! I enjoyed the premise, but the story could have been told in half the length, with much less repetition. I'm reluctant to give it 2 stars, as I'm not sure how much of my dislike was the book itself or the transition to a genre I don't typically read; if it's the latter, it pushes 3 stars.

I liked the concept of the book and the universe was well thought out. I did feel like the book was longer than it needed to be for the story being told, and some major plot points (e.g. the Maw ) were glossed over in the explanation of what they were and how they came to be. I also feel like the author could have used much of the book to flesh out the characters more, as I found myself not caring if most lived or died by the end of the book.
I read this book because a friend recommended it to me, even though I am not super into si-fy. I am so glad she did recommend this book, because I absolutely loved it! The world-building, characters, and technology described throughout was incredibly detailed and very interesting. To Sleep in a Sea of Stars is completely unlike anything I've ever read, and it has earned a spot in my favorites!

3⭐️I somehow finished it, but the writing was what really made it for me at times. However, plot-wise I wasn't a huge fan. It was a tad gory and just unnecessarily complex in a way. Still, it was a joy to finish it
