I found this book on a Walmart sales table and did a pretty good job embarrassing my husband as I busted up laughing in front of all the other people looking. This book is a riot - the letters between the son and the mother are exactly the sort of conversation a kid and a parent would have on the subject of getting a new pet, and the illustrations make it even better. I don't have kids, but I bought the book anyway, and I'll probably make all my houseguests read it. Right up there with Alien Opposites.

What a delightful little story. The narrative is told through letters between Alex and his mum. Alex is trying his hardest to convince his mum that it would be best if he got this iguana and how well he will take care of it. The illustrations are colourful and imaginative.
Not a huge fan of this illustrator but the book is entertaining
It was certainly an interesting way to tell a kids book, but I did enjoy the back and forth notes. I also really enjoyed some of the mom’s sarcasm.
I use this story when teaching about persuasive writing. The little boy in this story really wants an iguana. He writes letters to his mom to try to convince her to allow him to get one. It's very cute and sure to provide a laugh to your elementary school students. : )
Catrow and Orloff are brilliant together!
Charming epistolary humor and quirky illustrations.
