Gosh, I really thought I would love this book but I’m starting to think that short story collections really aren’t for me. I found most of the stories confusing and hard to follow and just, generally, unengaging. And don’t get me started on the awfully confusing Law and Order retelling thing - it was so long and boring and I didn’t know what was happening half the time. I didn’t like the writing and I just didn’t enjoy the reading experience but I know that this book will be absolutely perfect for a lot of people.

I loved some of the stories in this book. Others seemed lazy and were too caught up in small details to work as a short story. Eight Bites, Mothers, Difficult At Parties, and The Husband Stitch were my personal favorites. Inventory and The Resident were alright. I was not a fan of Real Women Have Bodies or Especially Heinous.

This is a weighed review because if Especially Heinous was on its own, I'd rate it 5 Stars. The writing is haunting and the way it describes things is very vivid. I enjoyed it a lot!
