3.5 stars. i really enjoyed the tone of this book! it was a very entertaining cozy mystery with a dash of spice. safe to say i will be continuing this series.
M.C. Beaton's wonderful Highland Cozy mystery series "Hamish Mcbeth" is a great quick read. Death of a Gossipthe first novel in the series is actually a re-read for me. I read it several years ago, and decided to revisit the series. These novels are short and extremely quick reads. Perfect for long travel and beachside, or just waiting in the Doctor's office. But in addition to that they are like the "Lays" potato chips of literature, junk food, but I at least can't read just one. I already have the second one Death of a Cad in my hot little hands.
I started out really liking this book, but it there were unnecessarily crass parts that were not to my taste and also I hate when you know the main character has gathered information, but it's not shared with you. There's always something you don't know (or we'd all figure out every mystery), but this was done in an annoying way. I might read another some time just to see if I like his later "Death of" books better.
