After surviving a plane crash that killed every other passenger, including his family, twelve year-old Edward Adler has to learn how to cope with losing everything and starting completely over.

This is a coming of age story, but with total devastation as the backdrop. It really tugs at the heartstrings. Not only do we get to witness the blossoming relationship of Edward and his neighbor, we also learn about the lives of the other passengers on the plane. What a whirlwind of emotions.

“And it was possible that they were all crying a little.” Me too, Edward. Me too.

Heard about this book because of the new show, and it doesn’t disappoint. Some aspects I hope they keep, others not so much. The characters are very well-made, and their relationships broke me from the inside out.

This is one of those books that I've had on my TBR for YEARS and have always been excited to read. I'm not sure if it was the anticipation or what but this book was good, not great for me. I think the message is good and it's sweet but it just didn't hook me. I struggled finding the motivation to pick it up and read.

Favorite quote: “What happened is baked into your bones, Edward. It lives under your skin. It’s not going away. It’s part of you and will be part of you every moment until you die. What you’ve been working on, since the first time I met you, is learning to live with that.”

I liked this book and at times it even made me giggle to watch Edward grow up. It wasn't life changing or thought provoking but it was quite sweet
