“To live well, you must learn to see yourself too.”

To say this book was a masterpiece is an understatement. Honestly speaking it wasn’t the plot that was the most compelling but rather the internal conflicts and feelings that Alice felt and her overall journey to overcome them.

Other than finding self-value, the book also examines class and privilege. Alice is the only student on a scholarship at an elite boarding school. Everyone else are privileged kids who've never had to worry about money. Meanwhile Alice's parents work long hours at their jobs just to provide for the family as well as Alice's education. As a result, Alice is a person who is determined to put every bit of her effort into her academics in order to live up to their expectations and not make their sacrifices in vain.

She was someone who made herself metaphorically invisible to the world bc she focused so much on her studies and not the world around her, that she became invisible in a LITERAL sense. Ultimately, her journey throughout the book was to find herself and to learn not to tie your worth to academic and grades.

The symbolic and metaphorical way that Ann Liang portrays Alice’s internal feelings was genius and beautiful! Brings so much more meaning to the title of the book too!! I think it really speaks to the Asian American community especially!

Also academic rivals to lovers is my new favorite trope!!

Wow, this was an intense conclusion to this particular trilogy of comics. It certainly helps to show how some of the issues in Korra came to be as they were in that series. My only complaint about this comic series (as it has been the whole time) is how much Aang and Katara overuse calling each other "sweetie." It is pretty much all the time. I mean, I understand that the characters are only like 14-16 years old, but wow, it is annoying. Other than that, I still absolutely love reading these, and I can tell that both the show and these comics are ones that I will definitely re-watch and re-read again and again in the future.
