So HAPPY
This book made me so incredibly happy. It just evokes that feeling of satisfied joy, you know?
Incredibly well written quirky characters with a great story. I’m definitely purchasing as a reread, because it’s too good not to own.
I LOVE the Dirty Martini Running Club, (ummm and I’m also making a shirt with that sloth running club slogan). This will definitely be on my must preorder list, for all books in the series. It was light, yet relatable and not without substance. So many books have decent stories but are just...airy? This book wasn’t like that- it has characters I love, a world created that I can’t wait to dive back into with the next installment.

I really wanted to like this book more but wow I did not like how unrelentingly petty Hazel was. Both of the main characters are highly educated and very immature which is a combo I don’t like, especially when you’ve obviously had to work hard to get to this level in your career. But I trust Claire to bring it all together and which she does wrap it up well and there are swoony moments, I just really love a lot of her other books more than this one.

I was so disappointed by this, when I saw this on KU I wanted to read it — I only read Faking Ms. Right so I can read this although they can be read as standalones. Anyway, I wanted this book, it was the reason why I got introduced to this series in the first place.
I love a good “geeky” story, but this was boring. I didn’t like Hazel, and honestly the only saving grace of this book were Corban’s chapters — he was personable, it felt like I knew him more in comparison to Hazel.
When I got to at least 30%-ish where they went to the conference, the story picked up a bit, it flowed in the way I’ve been wanting it to and I thought maybe I can salvage this and kick up my rating to 3 stars. But nope.
I love facts and research, I enjoy them too though not as much as Hazel and Corban, but the way it was presented in this book I just couldn’t. It’s too wordy, especially during Hazel’s chapters, I felt like she was sputtering sentences/statements that could have been removed but were kept solely to keep her chapters longer. I don’t mind internal monologues, but it was just too overdone for me.
I’d read the next books and hope they’re better than this. I’m really sad this let me down because I knew if it was written in the same flow as Faking Ms. Right, this would have been a straight up 5 stars for me.

I prefer academic rivals to lovers and enemies to lovers over workplace rivals to lovers but this was still a really good read. Both characters were equally weird and quirky and there wasn't a power imbalance with them in that way they brought out the nerd in each other and I really loved that.

Pues me han encantado, son cuquisimos, él con sus datos random de animales y ella con pocas habilidaes sociales, y el rollo del principio de la guerra entre ellos en el trabajo??? LIVING. No son para nada tóxicos, lo cual AGRADEZCO.

Sigh. I don't want to nitpick on the realism of this book, because it's fiction. And honestly I don't want to read romance novels that are too realistic. But unfortunately I am a scientist in real life and this depiction of scientists is about as far from the truth as you can get. If you want to get into stereotypes, the natural scientists (biology, chemistry, physics) are the ones who are obsessed with proving results with data - the characters in this book are in the psychology department. Since psychologists study human behavior, they don't usually have the stereotype of being socially awkward - that's usually reserved for the natural scientists who can hole up in a lab and avoid human contact.
I really struggled with Hazel and Corbin in the beginning of the book because they were portrayed as these very stereotypical nerdy and socially awkward scientists. Hazel kept going on and on about her obsession with data to support a theory and it drove me insane. I honestly gave up after a bit and didn't think I would finish the book. Eventually I came back to it and finished it. Aside from the scientist stereotypes, it wasn't bad.
