I didn’t like this one as much as the first one mainly because this book definitely felt like second-book filler material. At some point near the beginning, I was reading and thought to myself—I’m just gonna read till this certain event happens, then I’ll stop and go to bed. That certain event did not happen until the last chapter…so yeah I ended up skimming a lot of this one lol.

Arguably not a lot of plot happens because this book is focused on the characters. Okay, sure, this one does have some nice character moments and focused *a bit* more on some side characters (though a certain other side character from the first book was completely abandoned). But it is done with way too much telling and not enough showing. This book was so repetitive—to the point of distraction. I found myself wondering if a better copyedit would’ve helped it immensely. But dialogue and phrases were just repeated way too often to be accidental. Though I also questioned a lot of the comma placements…does anybody actually say “of course not” as “of course, not”? Maybe I am the only one this bothers but it drove me crazy!

Anyways, I’m over here complaining but I’m still gonna read the third book in April because I hate not knowing how a story ends. Does that mean it’s so bad it’s good? I don’t know, I can’t explain it #help

I know a lot of people love this series and if you do, I am happy for you! The writing style just doesn’t work for me. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Read if you like: enemies-to-lovers romance, vampire romances.

Whilst definitely an improvement upon From Blood and Ash. this was just as predictable and formulaic. Having said that, I enjoyed the easy ride.
