Best filler book I've ever read 🫶🏻

Things we don't have:
  • plot

Things we do have:
  • Sexual tension
  • Lots of traveling (is there a "only one horse" trope?)
  • Casteel once again murdering people for Poppy
  • Weirdly sexual but hot scenes of Casteel drinking Poppy's blood
  • Kieran and Casteel obvi being ready for a threesome
  • Casteel caring for Poppy's wounds *sobs*
  • yeah i think that's it

"Always,” he whispered in the breath we shared. “Your heart was always safe with me. It always will be. There is nothing I will protect more fiercely or with more devotion, Poppy. Trust in that—in what you feel from me."

I have so many thoughts swirling around my head at the moment but I have to say, this book got better further in. It picks up right where FBAA ends and starts off pretty slow. There's a decent chunk of lore and world building and I feel a lot more internal dialogue and turmoil than the first but it was exceptionally well done. I love a good slow burn romance and this one hits the mark.

Poppy is such an amazing and strong character and I am loving to see how much her powers have developed and what's in store for her. She's such a badass, and even though I found her a little whiney and annoying in the beginning of this book, she definitely has redeemed herself.

Cas may or may not be my new book boyfriend by the time this series is over, but we shall see what the future holds in store. (02/2024)

I feel like this book moved a lot quicker than the first. Lots of stuff happening to tie in a lot of plot points. Casteel has thankfully grown on me!!! Poppy too. Kind of just a fun world to read and not necessarily have too much attachment to.

So Poppy is half-Atlantian, granddaughter of the Ascended, and now descendant of the King of the Gods (which is ??).

So good! This second book really kicks things up and I LOVE the romance arc between the two MCs. The last several chapter go into overdrive and woll have you by the throat! Perfect set up for the 3rd book.
