Again the banter in this book is incredible!! The chemistry between Casteel and Poppy is incredible and their connection never once seems forced or fake. My issues stem from the world building/plot. It seems like every other chapter something contradictory is introduced and changes everything. I just wish there was some consistency to follow the relationship building thats so strong.

The first half dragged but the second half was so much better. Wasn’t sure if I’d continue this series but I have to with that ending.

Honestly, this book was a bit of a let down following Blood and Ash. It was slow and repetitive at parts. However, I did read the entire thing and intend to read the next... So take that for what it's worth.

Take two with Poppy, the gang, and their world of gods and magic. While this was probably 100 pages too long, a bit full of info dumps, and a metric fvckton of angst, I still couldn’t put it down.

Poppy is held against her will by the Dark One himself, Casteel Da’Neer, and has to decide her fate after learning that much of what she’s always believed to be true is not. This book is full of dark secrets, two kingdoms going to head to head against each other, and the enemies-to-lovers trope going strong.

I liked FBAA, but LOVED KOFAF. Starts off a bit slow since there's some time dedicated to the aftermath of the betrayal of the last book. The only things that keep me from eating this higher is there's quite a few repetitive phrases  and there's still a lot of unnecessary inner dialogue. Cas says something, Poppy spends two paragraphs telling you how she feels, then finally we get the reply.

But Poppy, Casteel and Kieran are the best and I love their banter. The lead up to the last quarter of the book ramps up then unleashes a whirlwind right up until the end. I am thankful to high hell that I already had the next book.

I didn’t enjoy this as much as the first one, but I did still enjoy it. There are certain parts that felt a bit too drawn out and there are certain things that get repeated too often (gee I wonder what Cas smells like?). But I do mostly like the characters (many more than Poppy and Cas) and I do enjoy the plot. Medium pace fantasy novel with a decent spice level. Interested to see if the third one bounces back for me.
