This is a cute little murder mystery that just about fills the checklist of things you'd want from a cozy, from a quaint tea room in Oxford to a mischievous cat, a brooding, steely-eyed small town detective to nosy old ladies and lots and lots of descriptions of pastries (there's even a recipe for a sconce at the end of the appendix).
The mystery in question is a bit easy to solve and I caught on pretty early in the book, which made the middle a bit slow for me. There's also the main character, who is supposed to be a former high-powered executive but doesn't really SEEM like a former high-powered executive.
Still, the writing is easy to read and the pacing is great. It's got all the quirky characters you'd expect from a book like this and I had a good time reading it. If you like stories in the vein of Columbo or Murder She Wrote, this is the series for you.

This book is the first in a brand new mystery series from H.Y. Hanna. I normally don't read mystery novels but for Ms. Hanna I made an exception. However I do prefer a good romance novel over a mystery any day. I do admit that I really did enjoy this novel. I liked the main heroine very much and I can relate to how she has to deal with an overbearing mother. I really enjoyed all the characters that were in this book. To the old biddies (who stick their noses into everyone's business) to Gemma's mother (who can't remember her iPad password) the reader will find at least one character they will like. I thought it was brillant who the murderer actually ended up being. This novel is a great start to the series and I'm looking forward to the next in the series.
Fun read
I enjoyed this one. I'll admit, the murderer was not who I expected! I'm learning, I Wally like these cozy murder mysteries.
