The Companion

3.68 AVERAGE

A polyam t4t romance about two trans women and a trans man finding belonging, healing, companionship, and a lot of sex together in a gorgeous cottagecore setting. Character-driven in a way that readers who prefer more dramatic romances will find frustrating, but ideal for those seeking a soothing read. It spoke directly to the part of me that wants to run away and live on a farm in the middle of nowhere.

lighthearted

The pacing was off, and the characters weren't explored with enough depth to make up for the faltering plot. Despite this, The Companion is a sweet, cozy read.

I wanted to love this! I love vintage queers and the premise of a t4t4t vintage queer novella should tick all my boxes but I found the plot to be lacking.

It was a lovely story of finding safety and love.
I enjoyed this, but felt the spice took away from the message of the book a bit and I never complain about too much smut. But with this book, less spice and a bit more character deepening would have been nice. Also felt there were some unanswered plot lines at the end (e.g. Victor's agoraphobia and anxiety was brushed aside a bit).
