I was bored a lot but Ive been told it's more a set up for the following books. The ending feels less like a cliff-hanger and more like Terry Brooks was finished setting things up and wanted to get to the real story.

There are some authors that are always able to pull you out of a rut. It might not be an amazing book, but you know it will at least be good enough to be enjoyable. Terry Brooks is that for me. Always enjoyable fantasy with a very vivid and exciting world.

It will be interesting to read the main books think it will add a lot to the randomness of this series so far.

Brooks’s weaknesses are on full display here—the plot follows the formula he set up in previous Shannara novels, and both dialogue and introspection tend to run in circles (as if he’s trying to hit a word count). That said, some the characters here are interesting—especially Walker Boh—and the plot goes in a few unexpected ways. It’s largely successful in spite of the few issues it does have.
