I loved everything about this book. From the horror fantasy elements to the amazing foreshadowing to the seedless transitions from third person to first person narration. I can’t wait to see what happens in books to come.

Found a patch in the middle a bit slow but otherwise kept me well enthralled.

This book is dark, violent, with a lot of swearing. Some reviews claim smutty and sexy but I’ve read worse (and by that I mean better). It’s long. It has beautiful drawings. It’s full of action and I got really drawn into the main characters story. I like it and recommend it if you’re ok with the above.

However, I don’t think the author is that great of a person. I hesitated to read the book bc I know he’s said some really insensitive things. So keep that in mind if you don’t want to support him. I happened to find the book on a good sale so that was my compromise with my morals, for better or worse.

This was so freaking good.

It's been almost a year since I read a book physically, just because nothing that released in the past year could keep my attention. But this was perfection from the first page. The pacing, characters, world building, and plot are all *chefs kiss.*

The most basic rundown of this book is the last Silversaint (a warrior named Gabriel) is giving his story to a historian vampire on how he has worked to change the world, on how he became one of the greatest warriors known to human/vampirekind and also on how he perhaps fucked up everything for everyone.

Empire of the Vampire is filled with love and laughter and is also vicious and dark and depressing. There is truly not a dull moment in this book and sometimes when I felt like I was about to be bored, it picked up and got super interesting again.

I love all the characters in this book. The relationships whether they be romantic or friendly are fleshed out so well and that BIG REVEAL at the end had me SO freaking sad. Gabriel is not the most likeable main character but he's not meant to be. He makes big mistakes, says some IGNORANT shit, and is truly an overall dickhead. But he makes this story so interesting and kept me entertained the whole book. Astrid (the LI) and Chloe and Dior and Aaron and Baptiste are ALL such great characters and it so hard to not fall in love with them all by the end of the book, if not sooner.

Now I did have a problem with a bit of homophobia in the book that I felt was completely unnecessary. I feel like if you are creating a fantastical magical vampire world, there doesn't need to be blatantly disgusting and religious driven homophobia. Especially when it doesn't add anything to the plot besides pain. But it wasn't a huge deal breaker for me (but it did keep this book from a 5 star.)

But if you're looking for a book filled with laughs, and oh shit moments, filled with family love, and if you like the occasional steamy sex scene, or awesome sword fights, or a lot of death then I definitely say pick this up! Oh and also ... there's freaking vampires. Which that alone should be enough to make you want to read this :)
