Read this first at 11. I'm 24 now, and it's as good as I remember.

I first read this book when I was in middle school and the movie adaptations were just coming out. I remember the focus on the "love story" that was at the heart of this series. But the Hunger Games isn't about love; it's about survival in a society where twenty-four children kill each other for sport on live TV every year. Katniss has an advantage because she already knows what's it like to starve, to lose someone, to hunt and to rage against the system that forces her to do these things. It uncovers the strategy and psychology of being a TV star and those of being a traumatized teenager put into a death game where traps and other contestants could kill you at any moment. It's harrowing and tense and once the Games end, you realize that it's just the tip of the iceberg.

Great book, been re-reading it almost every year for the past 10 years. Recommend it for older teens (14+) and young adults.

This is the third time that I read this book. The first two times were when it was released and now, ten(-ish) years later. I felt exactly the same and that was my favorite part about rereading this story.

Katniss is an amazing main character: a very strong female role model, selfless, sensitive... even her naiveness is very relatable. She was forced to grow fast and had a very hard life - losing her father and with a mother destroyed by grief she was the only one who could provide for her sister and from that point on Prim is the only reason why she wants to live.

I love this book because shows that love can be the force that changes lives, even in the most complete chaos and brutality the ones we love can make a difference between giving up and fight a little longer.

this book keeps you hooked from start to finish.
can't help to compare it a little bit with the world we live in today, where the discrepancy between poor and rich is so ruthlessly real and then compare the different districts with various countries or even continents altogether...
I love that it makes you think and compare with our day to day life even tho it happens in a postapocalyptic world.
also has the perfect amount of everything: love, drama, suspense and so on.
it's a shame I didn't read it sooner becaus it was also quite easily to identify with the main characters as well.

J'ai trouvé le livre décevant tant au niveau narration que ce qu'il se passe. J'ai essayé de le lire, sans succès... :/
