I finally understand the hype. I started to watch the movie, and stopped it, until I could read the book, and I'm glad that I did. I'd read some reviews that stated the writing was too simplistic. However, for the YA audience it was spot on given the 1st person narrative. Remember, she is a 16 year-old narrating the entire thing. More flowery prose and I think the tone would have been a bit unrealistic.
