This book was sad in the way that life can be sad, in fits and starts with joy interspersed. It kind of points out that you can be happy in so many different ways and I like that.

It is tough to get past the beginning where the story follows all of your least favorite kids from high school. But I found Dennis to be a very refreshing outside perspective on the group that is the interestings

Starts off well enough as a coming of novel, but I lost interest halfway through. The novel is reduced to a series of events with little development of character or interaction or even writing once the characters pass into adulthood. Then it is just boring. Too many underdeveloped stories and characters crammed into one.

Reading this book wasn't wholly unenjoyable, but I spent a lot of time waiting for someone to call the primary narrator out for her incredibly shallow point of view. And even when it seemed like there was a turning point, nothing really changed. Thankfully there were brief moments of narration from other characters, but I'm unsure why that wasn't extended to more of the group.

I wouldn't dissuade anyone from reading this book, but it fell short of what I'd hoped it was.
