I expected this book to feel a lot more like the millions of fanfics I’ve read with this exact trope. But it ended up feeling more like your usual ya contemporary novel. However, I still really loved it. Even if the trauma and angst threw me off a bit at the start, I grew to love this story.
There was so much tension. Jesus, those girls really just danced around each other for years. It made my slow burn loving heart very happy.
Anyway, Penny and Tate are amazing and I’d like to throw Lottie from a very high building :)

This is my second Tess Sharpe book, and I’ve got to say, I’m a fan! This book was so great! I loved how it was split into 7 parts making you want to know more (kind of reminded me of the seven husbands of evelyn hugo in the formatting)

I loved the friends to lovers trope with Tate and Penny. I loved Tate so much!! Both Penny and Tate were very developed and had reasons for their actions.

I love how this book covered trauma and grief from different perspectives.

One thing I didn’t like was that
there were some text conversations with the side characters that I personally didn’t  care for. It kind of moved the story along but other times it felt unnecessary.

It seems every year there's a book that reminds me how fun it is to read. Of course, a book that doesn't spark with you can make it hard to remember how fun reading can be, but when you finally find The One, you remember, and you have the best time.
This book is going to go on my list of Books The Reminded Me How Fun Reading Can Be (or whatever I end up naming it)

This is a sapphic YA slow-burn, and I mean slow burn. But it gives the right kind of crumbs along the way that makes this love story not a painful waiting game, but a heartfelt "chase".

Romance aside, its a VERY emotional book. It includes topics such as tragic death, trauma, near death experiences, characters with anti-mental health perspectives, chronic illness, and emotionally toxic family relationships.

However, with all that heaviness, this book wasn't an emotional or mental drag. It handled all its topics with insight and maturity.

Thank you so much to TeamBkmrk for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review. I’m beyond grateful. This was beautiful.

6 Times We Almost Kissed is deserving of more than 5 stars. If I could give it 6, I would.

A wonderful story of grief, chosen family, and hope. Tess Sharpe manages to pack so much meaning into 300-odd pages, combining romance and mystery to make a story about resilience and growth. I could spend days dissecting her work and still have more to analyse. Sharpe’s writing is so beautiful, so digestible, so gripping, it mixes such heavy and difficult topics, with heartwarming and hopeful ones. I couldn’t put this book down and ended up finishing it in 5 hours. I think this is the type of book you’ll find yourself crying over, but for me, I’m just happy the characters got the ending that was right for them.

I’m so glad this was my first read of the year, but I’m not sure how any book is going to compare.

If you like Tess’s other work, then definitely read this! There is a different vibe to The Girls I’ve Been, but 6 Times still has genius woven into each line. Such fantastic sexuality rep (both MCs are bisexual) and mental health rep.

Please check tws before reading!

i read an e-arc of this back in September and forgot to add it here! this was my review on NetGalley :)

This book was absolutely incredible. Tess Sharpe does an amazing job of weaving these two girls stories together and giving us every reason to root for them ans care about them. I was nearly brought to tears multiple times (and I say that as a compliment). 6 TIMES WE ALMOST KISSED (AND ONE TIME WE DID) is a powerful story of grief and finding love - and yourself - in the wake of loss. It broke my heart and healed it at the same time. I can't express enough how much I loved it. It's already my favorite 2023 release.
