I started this thinking it would be a cutesy and easy read…
While some parts are really sweet, it’s overall a quite dark book with complicated relationships. It’s good if you’re a big fan of “will-they-won’t-they” couples, as well as lots of romance tropes. While I did enjoy this book and can see why avid romance readers would love it, it just wasn’t totally for me and that’s ok.

Finished the book bc I love the trope but I hated the writing. Idk if it’s just the e copy I got but (there were way too many parentheses). Also, it felt like the characters were sets of traits and quirks rather than people with personalities. Didn’t feel a lot of chemistry between the main characters. Didn’t get the point of Megan and Remington - imo they were only there as quick fixes or to move the plot forward. And naming a side character Remington is super distracting - is this set in modern day northern cali or regency era england 🧐?

This book was gorgeously written, filled with queer angst, love and tenderness. The bond between Penny and Tate was beautifully convincing, tangling the bond that comes with shared trauma together with the unbreakable connection between two people who have always been there for each other, no matter what.

Despite having little in common with The Girls I've Been, the beauty of the central relationships and the visceral feeling of the tragic events that ties them together is the same.

Would definitely recommend to fans of slow-burn fanfiction, queer situationships and angst with a happy ending.

made me cry multiple times. the quote, “Loving her isn’t new. It’s a permanent state i’ve grown used to. But being loved by her? It’s like touching water for the first time.”, might be one of my favourites ever.
