I was excited to receive an ARC of this from penguin as a book about feminism, set in a record shop is very much my definition of the perfect book.
I enjoyed this book and would reccomend it if you’re wanting a lighter take on feminism that still has a competent grip on the issues it’s tackling.
Personally i was expecting a bit more of an emotionally hard hitting novel but as a coming of age in your late 20s type of book it delivered on what it promised.
A few things concerned me about a third of the way through, such as the very narrow view of a white main character dealing with misogyny and sexism, however later on in the book it did acknowledge more that the main character needed to do some introspection and see how she needed to work on her outlook on feminism and shift to a more intersectional view (though i do wish there was more on this, it felt a bit rushed over which was a shame).
there was also a point in the book where the main character and her best friend commented on a woman’s eating habits in a negative way which was unnecessary imo.
being about a woman reaching her 30s there were a few references and jokes that landed flat for me but that’s not a huge deal and more of a personal thing.
overall i enjoyed this book!
