Interesting read but very repetitive, especially if you have watched the show.
Written from multiple "voices," but they all sound exactly the same...
Wasn't bad, wasn't good. It was nice to have more background from each of the adults, but doesn't contribute much more than that on top of the show. I still think the show is worthwhile though.
I'll admit to binge watching a season or two of Sister Wives when holidaying at a friend's house. The anthropologist in me liked getting a look at their lifestyle. I read the book for the same reason...but also because I am doped and drowsy on strong antihistamines and wanted to read something mindless. Seems like they are trying really hard to convince everyone they get on ok. Meri comes off like a total bitch!

If you have watched the show, don't bother reading this book. 10 years ago this info was new, now they have told all of this thru the seasons.
Am I the only one that finds the constant references to monogamous relationships as "simple" or "simplistic" grating and annoying? It implies that their life and marriages are so much more difficult than others, and I think that's presumptuous. All relationships and marriages have challenges. I'm about halfway through and the book is interesting, but this is one thing that's really stuck out so far.
I have finished the book, and it was just okay for me. I am a fan of the reality show and was excited to read this book. However, I wish the book would have talked more about the tenets of their faith and why they believe in this lifestyle. I would have also liked to hear from some of the older children about whether or not they think they will join the faith and practice polygamy. A second book, perhaps?

What can I say, I have such a soft spot for Sister Wives. I’ve watched every season of their show and feel like I know them now haha reading the book, which was written quite a while ago was a bit strange. Knowing how things will progress in their lives beyond the book, it’s hard to take some of it as truth because we’ve seen otherwise but I loved the insight.
Reading this & seeing them on TV has changed my feelings about polygymy. To each his own!
