Not one of the better Doctor Who books. Alright. But it feels rather unimportant and redundant.

The Eleventh Doctor and Clara tangle with the Great Intelligence in the 1700s. There's pirates! And River Song! And the Paternoster Gang! And a vigilante ex-slave called Nanny! And... as you may have gathered by now it's a bit of a character explosion. Clara gets ushered off-page for a while, presumably to make things a bit easier for the author. Most of the character voices are pretty generic and don't quite land, sadly (the Paternoster Gang come off pretty well for the most part), and the plot is a bit needlessly convoluted while being easy to predict for all that, but it's a fun time anyway. Everyone's memories get reset at the end to prevent continuity snarls.
