The writing was so boring and didn't grip me. We didn't hear much about any Passenger and so I had no real attachment when they died, which I guess was the point, but it didn't work well. The main character, Libby got so preachy on her soapbox so often that I just wanted to shake her. She kept arguing with the Hacker about how unethical making them choose who lived/died was, and how they didn't get to hear the full story, which was just...so dumb. This guy allegedly has bombs everywhere, and has proven he WILL kill, AND there's a time crunch and she still wants to point out the hypocrisy. In the aftermath of things she was still so insane, and self-righteous. It was overbearing how terrible she was.

Not to mention the Passengers were insufferable in the same way. At one point
they talk for 10 minutes to try and argue they should live, and the hacker reveals their dark secret skeleton in the closet after they're done so they can't explain themselves. You would think the next people to go would learn, and just own up to it, but they keep thinking that the Hacker doesn't know and lies by omission again. And then they're stunned he reveals it. SHOCKER.

Literally took me a month and a half to finish because it was so slow moving for the first 60% (ish) that I dragged my feet.

WOW OH MY GOSH this was so fast paced and tense i loooooved it!!!! it felt like one of steve cavanagh’s eddie flynn novels with all the vastly different characters and many, many twists! i really loved how this was set up. instantly from chapter one the world building drew me in and i was super intrigued! i loved how marrs explored hivemind mentality- especially via social media- and a bunch of moral conundrums. all the reveals were very twisty and i enjoyed it so much! the aftermath of the incident felt like it dragged on a bit too much but it was still a satisfying ending, no doubt
the scariest part about this book is how easily it could become realistic too😭

Fast paced and very twisty, I found it difficult to put this book down! I loved the social commentary, and the exploration of the limitations  and vulnerabilities of AI feels particularly timely. This book felt like an episode of Black Mirror in the best way

My first book my John Marrs was ‘The One,’ and it made me look up more of his works. But this is my new favorite of his. It was hard to put it down as every chapter left you wanting more. John Marrs is fantastic with his twists and makes you question the realm of possibility in our real everyday lives.
