This book singlehandedly got me into a reading slump.
I hated this book from the start. I should have DNF'ed, I know, but it was only 250 something pages... Surely it couldn't be that bad? It was. The writing was incredibly pretentious and I hated all the tense switiching and narrators. I hated the characters, they were bland stereotypes that pretended to be more intricate than they really were. The story, what story? There was no plot other than: boy meets girl and then fall in love and then they fight and then they make up :) NO. I had to read through paragraphs of pretentious thoughts, "I'm not like other girls". And then they had one fight, in the last 50 something pages, which immediately resolved. I hated the romance, I hated the spice, I hated the characters, the plot, the writing, all of it.
1/5, why do you all love this so much.

„‚sometimes‘, he began slowly, ‚doesn’t happiness seem … fake? like it might be something someone invented. an impossible goal we’ll never reach’, he clarified, ‘just to keep us all quiet.’”
alone with you in the ether tells the story of regan and aldo, two very unique individuals. regan is bipolar and a thief. aldo is a theoretical mathematician and is obsessed with the concept time.
they meet at the art institute that regan works at. they agree to have six conversations to get to know each other better. through these conversations, they reveal little bits and pieces to each other and a love story blooms.

this is a very complex story, one that definitely demands your full attention while reading. i admired the writing style and the complexity of the characters. the depth, in which they were explored is astonishing. it was so intimate, i felt as though i was interrupting them.
the subject touched upon in this book i feel like are not to be understood, but to be interpreted, felt by the reader. at times i found myself so lost, so out of touch with the statements. some other ones were their own entities and spoke to me.
this story needs to be read at least twice i feel like. i can’t wait to get back to it in and see how future vasi thinks of it.

This is either one of those books that you will absolutely love or it will be one you just don’t get.
Alone with You in the Ether encapsulates the realities of mental illness by exploring obsession, compulsion, addiction, abandonment, self sabotage and so much more through the fragile and tender moments of an unconventional relationship.
It explores mental health in a way that many don’t want to come to terms with. It’s clear Olivie has put a piece of herself in this book. Many will understand it too well and for this, this little piece of truth, I am grateful.
I know this book will stick with me for some time, becoming a favourite.
I keep swip-swapping between a 4 and 5 star but you know what? It’s a 5. A solid 5. I’m still thinking about this. I fear I won’t recover.

LOVED the topics discussed in this book. A great book for anyone super open minded about concepts like time & the expansive universe among many other universes & infinite possibilities. The worst part ab this book is the (imo) cheating trope in the first half. After that’s gone, it is very enjoyable.

3.25 stars. This was much different than I expected. The way it was written felt a bit confusing and clunky. I would get confused knowing when characters were talking to each other vs in their heads. Overall it was a very different type of love story than I’ve ever head with a lot of focus on mental health (main character is manic). By the end I didn’t get the general satisfaction with how it concluded. I feel like the book would have been better if it ended in the couple going their seperate ways or more detail of what happened later in life.

It's difficult to rate this book as I loved some parts and really didn't like others.
Also, not that this shouldn't be written about at al, butit feels a bit like quitting medication for bipolar disorder to increase creativity is being advertised (also by the author's note) and I just hope it doesn't lead someone to do this of their own accord.
