This book was excellent. Looking through the negative reviews I see of it on goodreads, I have to wonder if I was reading the same book as some of these reviewers. It's almost hard to imagine people have gotten so cynical that they cannot imagine that a book like this could be written without some sinister ulterior motive, or read without a desire to assuage feelings of white guilt. Books can be books. They inform, amaze, teach, and describe - to ascribe more to the book than what is written, to guess at the author's intent and presume it to be sinister, strikes me as overly jaded and extremely distressing.

Historical fictions are my favorite genre, and this book is right up there with my favorite books.

Amir’s story is one to be read. It paints an image of a Afghan childhood during war and a bond between two boys. The story is heartfelt and emotional.
