4 // knowing me and my general love and borderline obsession for classics/literature/film research on female archetypes and their differing depictions/perceptions especially based on their author (and said author's own identity) - this was 100% up my alley and an entertaining accompaniment on walks and spring cleaning

This was delicious. A deep dive into various women in Greek myth, with an intimate understanding both of current cultural understanding and of the historical landscapes in which these myths developed. Haynes is always able to find points of shared experience between the reader and these larger-than-life mythological women off of which to construct greater understanding of their stories, and does so with a masterful balance of gravity for the tragedies in their lives, and comedic asides that cut the tension, and keep the text approachable.
