Baseball is always my kryptonite. Then you throw in it written by my favorite author, yes please!
Alice and rafe are so sweet together! I really loved that it was Alice that broke him out of his playboy ways. I loved the fact that movies were always referenced.
The stadium seen with the purple rain.

I am absolutely in love with Kate Stewart's work. This is the first book I have read by her and I can tell you I will be purchasing her other work.
Alice is nerd but awesome pilot. She relocates to take a job and start her life from underneath her mother's thumb. Growing up she was never allowed to do anything so she felt she never realized how to live.
After moving she meets Rafe, a gorgeous man who is a minor league baseball player. Rafe is a local favorite who is just waiting for his time to be called up to the big league. The typical athlete that we all dream of.
The 2 meet and things just get comical. Everything from the banter back and forth to the nerd girl with her movies, nervousness and compulsive Google search.
This was just the right amount of love, loyalty, friendship, desire and laughter.

The book wasn't terrible, that's why I gave it two stars. It just wasn't original or enticing enough to keep me going. I got bored.

Alice moved to Charleston, South Carolina to get away from from her oppressive life she had with her mother. Alice still loves her mother, but she wants adventure and to try things without judgement. On one of her adventures she attends a baseball game only to see Rafe Hembry, Pitcher extraordinaire who everyone feels will get picked for the major leagues soon.
Rafe doesn't do relationships and he certainly doesn't need the distraction but he wants Alice. He finds her take on life refreshing, uncanny, and sometimes dangerous. Alice wont be stopped though and puts Rage in the friend zone, but Rafe decides he needs Alice all the time and doesn't want to share with others. Rafe wants a relationship with Alice and although he wishes he could just sweep her off her feet and stay in bed, real life interferes and both learn to navigate with one another.
Hilarious. Alice is one of my favorite heroines. She has such a zest for life and is so honest when she speaks, she just lays it out. Add in her movie prowess, google addiction, and ability to get herself into unusual situations, you want to be her. Rafe has a history of a bed hopper, with Alice he finds himself changing to become a better man. Not sure how I found this one, but so glad I did. I am anxious to read more from this talented author and loved the story.

Okay, ignore the cover - that is totally misleading, so much so that I had to reread the blurb to make sure I hadn't got one of those mythical situation where the give you the wrong book by mistake. And while the blurb is totally about this book it also is different (if that makes any sense).
So, Alice moves to Charleston to teach pilots - she likes to think of herself as Kelly McGinnis in Top Gun, well at least until she sees the group of middle-aged, grumpy pilots she has to teach. Alice has a raging love for 1980s films, especially those by John Hughes, and an insatiable desire for knowledge. She a.d.o.r.e.s. Google. She spends her spare time exploring all that Charleston has to offer and trying new experiences. Call her a nerd, call her a dork, she doesn't care. She knows she has no filter.
Rafe is a minor league pitcher with his sights set clearly on getting the call up to the major leagues. He's a bit of a douche, all about himself, his career and getting laid, his only friend is Andy, another player on the team.
When Alice decides to watch a baseball game she inadvertently sits next to a lifelong Swampgators fan, Dutch, who teaches her all about baseball and the star player Rafe "the Bullet" Hembrey.
Soon Rafe is in full-on pursuit of Alice but she, intelligent woman that she is, realises that having a one-night stand with a man that she intends to watch play baseball all season is a sure-fire recipe for disaster.
Rafe and Alice have an unusual and hilarious courtship involving throat-punching, mid-air peeing, and naming body-parts. The best part? Alice is totally the star of this novel and Rafe her adoring sidekick.
Highly recommended if you enjoy your romance on the funny side, 1980s films and music, baseball and great friendships.

3.5 stars. it was cute, funny and steamy. I really liked heroine Alice. She was more interesting and distinctive as a character than Rafe who was pretty much your standard spots star player, although I did enjoy their interactions, and the fact that they did stuff together and actually got to know one another before falling into bed (which was down to Alice's rather clear eyed view of the consequences).

There were a lot of things I enjoyed about our MCs’ relationship, but they as individuals confused me. Particularly the female MC. I understand she was sheltered but I’m meant to believe she went 20+ years without leaning how to not pee when she’s nervous? I don’t know if this is a prominent condition I don’t know about, or just a weird quirk for the character, but it was very unexpected. Then her reaction of burning the t-shirts?? That really should have been the end of their relationship. Misunderstanding or not, what she did was bonkers, and her acknowledging it wasn’t enough for me.
Lastly, Rafe’s family drama just wasn’t fully developed to me. It came to a head fairly early but didn’t seem to go anywhere considering it was such a significant driving force in his decision making.
The steamy scenes were great though.

I liked it but didn't love it. It was...boring. The story was way too rushed and honestly, I didn't feel like the characters had that chemistry, that..click ya know?
But on a good note I loved Alice, the heroine. Her personality was so happy and nerdy and just contagious. Tbh I finished this book because of her
