OOOF. What an ending to such a well-written and thought provoking trilogy! This one is politics packed, action heavy, and littered with truly heart-wrenching moments. It's kinda left me at a loss for words. Just so good.

A beautiful ending to a beautiful trilogy. I fucking loved this series the whole way through and im starting Iron Gold IMMEDIATELY after I finish writing this. I feel like while I loved the characters throughout Red Rising and Golden Son, I developed that deeper connection with them during Morning Star that warrants a five star rating (despite not being overly fussed on that one huge plot twist at the end). I appreciate how viscerally human Darrow is despite all he has been through and all he has lost. I often feel that characters who experience similar tragedies to Darrow are always written to become somewhat of a cold blooded, merciless weapon of war. But Darrow continues to be driven not by revenge, but for the love of his people and family. I LOVE HIM!!! Anyway, loved it will read again

Well.

So.

This book completely destroyed me.

I didn't see it coming. I really didn't. Red Rising was okay, and kept me interested enough to pursue the sequel. Golden Son was okay, and then Brown brought his A-game to the closing pages and made me realize the books had slowly been cultivating deep feelings I didn't know I had.

And Morning Star....good lord. What a way to end a trilogy. Morning Star wrecked me from beginning to end as it took all those feelings I had only recently discovered I had and went for a joyride full of love and terror.

This easily would have been a 5-star read except for the epilogue. I understand why Brown made the decision that he did, which affects Darrow and Mustang. I get it. The groundwork for that particular thing was laid almost from page one, and the thought of it drove Darrow through the series. But it feels like wrapping the story up in too neat of a package. Consequently, the epilogue had a bit of the Rowling effect in terms of trying a bit too hard
Spoiler to give its leads a happy ending after all the hell they've been through.
.

Still, I love this series a lot more than I initially thought I would, and Brown does some really brilliant things here, particularly with the dynamics between Darrow and Sevro, and Darrow and Cassius.

When does Iron Gold come out again?
