I loved K. Ancrum's other book, Icarus, so I was very excited to read this story with a sapphic main character that she wrote.
Unfortunately, this wasn't really my thing. Yes, the teenage characters were very well written again and I loved seeing them interact with each other, but I did not find the plot interesting (maybe that's because science fiction is often not my thing) and I missed the yearning that she wrote so well in Icarus. In the end, the book was fine, but I had hoped for more.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. The yearning was so good at the end, all that angst was written so powerfully.

However, I don’t feel like the characters were explored enough to make those end decisions make sense. Maybe it’s the age thing, and I’m too far from my teen years to remember being that dumb. To me, the reasoning for Ryann’s end decision were weak.

This book is so full of longing and ~lesbian yearning~ and I really, really adored that.
Also, S P A C E.

I just feel like everything happened way too fast and I couldn't actually get to know the characters so well. They are all wonderful and I'd die for Ryann and her family and her weird, complex, lovely friends. But. I feel like I got barely any time with them and couldn't really understand their decisions. That actually also goes for Ryann, who's such a great character and who I'd love to know more about, like, the big decision she makes basically doesn't feel like a decision at all for her and I'm like, why?

Still, the last few chapters were some of the most beautiful I've read in a sci-fi YA and they made me yearn, oh, so much.

This is a quietly tender character driven story about found family, friendship, and the resilience of the human spirit.

I liked the overall themes explored within this book. I can appreciate how this was geared to a young adult audience yet still was able to close the book with hope in my heart. The ending was what really brought it together and left me feeling giddy all while rooting for Ryann & Alex to find their way back together 🥹
