I thought the world was interesting, but it reminded me a lot of Neuromancer and I hate that book lol.

The City & The City has two main things going on. First, a murder mystery, which honestly I could take or leave. It was fine?, I think?, if you're a murder mystery fan, but ultimately that part wasn't why I read it
The other thing though, was incredibly well written and absolutely fascinating. The two titular cities are Besźel and Ul Quoma, and they share the same physical location. A building may belong to Ul Quoma, but the alleys by the side of it may all be Besźel, or a street might be cross-hatched and belong to both at once. A citizin of one city learn to unsee the other - walk around their neighbours without noticing, not hear the sound of foreign train beneath their window, even ignore a car crash if it happens in the wrong city - lest they cause Breach.
It's a concept that stuck with me long after finishing the book

I held out my hand as I walked, and I did not slow down, but Corwi gripped it and we met each other's gaze a moment. Looking back, I saw her and Dhatt, metres apart in different cities, staring at me. It was really dawn at last.
