Swan Song

Robert R. McCammon

One of my favorite end-of-the world titles. I so wish this was a made for TV series. I could not put it down.

About 200 pages too long.

Monotonous story that drags on and on. Starts strong but goes on way too long with repetitive plot lines that just take way too long.

Almost got the 4th star. I did enjoy this book and actually really liked the first half a lot, before it devolved into a much more cartoonish story. Strong start, O.K. middle and a weak ending equates to a 3. "The Stand" was better in total although the Kmart sequence here was brilliant. Anyway, worth the read and certainly fun ! Bumped up to 4 stars - a memorable book!

Some books are stories. This is a saga. I'd rate the novel itself about 4.5, but I listened to the audio version and the narrator was fantastic. So overall, I rated it 5 stars. There are a few loose ends, some questions without answers, and sure it's a little dated. But I enjoyed it immensely. It's worth diving into, especially on a long trip.

This is my favorite book of all time!!!!!

This book is horrifying and beautiful.

Swan Song >>>>> The Stand

If you get the urge to read this book, just read Stephen King's The Stand instead, unless for some reason you prefer shameless ripoffs with a dull story, shallow stereotyped characters and lackluster storytelling. Boring as fuck.

This book is really a product of its time, from the late 80s when nuclear war was on everyone's mind, but there are themes and attitudes that are still very relevant. I actually think I like this book better than The Stand.
