Great book. Great retelling. Loved the basis on the letters.  Inspiring me to write my family’s story…

This novel-in-verse, narrated by Mary in 1930s Detroit, unveils a family saga brimming with secrets. As Mary discovers letters penned by her parents, we're transported back to Greece and France, where their past unravels. Through Mary's journey, themes of immigration, the clash of freedoms and traditions, and the yearning to preserve heritage intertwine. We also explore themes of family, legacy, and women's rights. I wish there had been a stronger connection to mythology. Extra points for an amazing cover!

I love that the author based this book on her own grandmother! The story came together very well and the tragedies everyone faced were very sad. It felt a bit disjointed at times, but overall it was an enjoyable read.

I give this a strong 3.78 — The only problem is that I wish it were longer.
