A fitting conclusion to the series! While I do think this may be the weakest of the lot - there's a lot of research and the action is over rather quickly - it's still charming, and cozy yet in a dangerous and fascinating world crafted with immense care and detail. I have loved the anthropological take of Emily, I love her being an older protag, I love her logical contrast to Wendell and his foppery and their deep affection for each other. One of the most well-written and believable romances I've read in years. I'd happily return this world to read Emily's grocery lists.

Struggled with the pacing of this one in the first 50-60%!! I just never fully believed what Wendell and Emily would see in each other. Also, the researcher in me just feels like inserting yourself so strongly into your "subjects" makes for bad research? I also don't fully get Emily's disdain for many Fae creatures. ALSO I feel like
we should have seen the journey into the afterlife. It felt very much like a convienent solution that we didn't even get to see the details of.

The plot is literally intertextuality. FUCKING FABULOUS BITCH!!!! GO AWWWWFFFFF FAWCETT!!!! I love when authors do this right. For an author to create from this space feels so authentic. Writers come from readers, and this book was a celebration of readership. Fawcett creates in Emily a small reflection of herself - reader, thinker, writer, Queen of the Faeries.
