I loved this series, but there is a time an author needs to let go and wrap it up. The time is now.

✨✨✨✨ 1/2

In the fourth book in the Stillhouse Lake series Gwen is working as a PI. She is investigating a cold case of a young college student’s disappearance three years ago,who seems to be the victim of a religious cult.As Gwen starts unravelling the truth she ends up putting her family and her life in danger as the threat is much closer than she'd anticipated.

Bitter Falls is an action packed fourth book in the Stillhouse Lake series by Rachel Caine. Told from different family member’s POV’s it's a fast paced thriller full of suspense and tension. Cannot wait to see where the Proctors land up next!

I would like to thank Thomas Mercer & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

It's been awhile since I read a book in this series, but I remembered the other three I read.  Usually when you get into the fourth book in a series, it's usually a dud.  I did think this one was, though I don't think it was as good as the first or second one.

I do wonder how much can really happen to a family?  Then I think, to myself, it's fiction.  I kind of liked the hillbilly drug clan that Caine had in this book.  I could just picture them showing their redneckness 😂.  (I have rednecks in my family, so I can say that.).  Caine also put some cult in the book, again.  If you have read 'Wolfhunter River' you know what I am taking about.

I will continue with this series, as I enjoy it.  It's got serial killers, murder, cults, drug thugs and more.  If you like books like that, you need to read the Stillhouse Lake series.

😊 Happy Reading 😊

It's a 4.5 really. I'm really grateful that this didn't go the way I thought it would. I really enjoyed this installment, although I have a bug bear about repeating stuff that's been said in previous books (which I understand because of new readers) which was a tad annoying at the start. It was an enjoyable read, and nice to see other characters getting a bit more "screen time" so to speak. Good plot, good pacing and a nice inevitable ending that leaves openings for another sequel that could go in a couple of different directions.
