Full disclosure to those of you that might not follow my blog. I’m a Trekkie. A huge Trekkie and Spock just happens to be my favorite character in the entire franchise. I was so sad to learn of his death and am grateful for all that he contributed to our society through art and entertainment. While I appreciate William Shatner and Kirk he was never one of my favorite characters, my second being MacCoy. But truly the brilliance of the original series was the dynamics between the three lead actors.

There is little doubt that I loved this book. I will admit that yes, Shatner talks about himself almost as much as he does Nimoy but if you thought it would be any different you don’t know Shatner. This, after all, is more a book about their friendship than it simply is a book about Leonard’s life. This book is a tribute to a friendship that spanned a lifetime and Shatner’s way to say good-bye. Many of the stories the ardent Trekkie will already know but so what. If you love these actors then you will enjoy hearing them all over again, I did.

I had been planning on reading this book when it came out but when I was looking for audiobooks I decided to listen to this one instead of reading it. Since the book is read by the author I would highly suggest others do the same. What better way to listen to these stories than to have Shatner read them to your himself. To get to hear the inclinations in his voice as he shares a beautiful friendship that touched his life. So yes, please think about listening to the audiobook version of this book.

If you enjoyed Star Trek and was a fan of Spock than this is a book you aren’t going to want to miss. I found myself smiling, laughing and feeling all kinds of nostalgia as I listened to this book. Live Long and Prosper.

Trekkies will love this book.

Shatter's writing style took some time for me to get used to. The early chapters seemed to jump around and there was a lot of comparison between himself and Nimoy. So much so that I began to wonder who this book was really about. As a sci-fi fan I did enjoy the stories shared about the development of Star Trek and the making of the films.

I love books about Star Trek. That's what prompted me to read Leonard Nimoy's second autobiography "I Am Spock." Nimoy had an attractive voice (both in writing and speaking). I enjoyed his sense of humor and the way he told stories. That is what made me pick up "Leonard: My Fifty-Year Friendship with a Remarkable Man" by William Shatner. I wanted a new perspective on Nimoy, and that's what I got.

Shatner did a thorough job of untangling Leonard's life and achievements, however, the order of events was choppy. The writing is probably as one would expect from a non-writer. Still, I could feel the warmth of Shatner's memory of Nimoy as he recalled stories of their time together.

I was unsettled by how things ended between Shatner and Nimoy. I guess that could be a worst fear for anyone: losing someone without having the chance to apologize or tell someone you love them. I think that last bit made me empathize with Shatner. It gave the book more meaning.

This is a weird book.

While it's not intended to be a biography of Nimoy as written by Shatner, you sort of expect that. The title clearly indicates that the book is about the friendship of the two men....but you sort of get the sense that they were more friendly competitors, that Shatner was mildly jealous of Nimoy, and that both of them are pretentious and pompous.

It's hard to remember that the book is about the two men; I found myself irritated Shatner was talking about himself, when I had been reading [listening to] a book with Leonard Nimoy on the cover.

That's not to say the book wasn't enjoyable, or insightful, or informative. It was all of those things at times, and at other times I just wished Shatner would shut up, despite the fact that he is rather pleasing to listen to.

Really mixed feelings about this one, but it did make me want to read true biographies on both men.

Insightful look at their friendship (rather than a straight look at Leonard).

Though sometimes rambly, this is a great ode to friendship and all that it encompasses.

There are few people who are a iconic as Leonard Nimoy. And few people who knew him as well as William Shatner. They had a near 50 year friendship. They were best friends. Supporting each other in thick and thin. I've been a Star Trek fan for as long as I can remember. I've read Star Trek histories. I learned much about Leonard Nimoy. And because their lives were so intertwined, I learned much about William Shatner. This is a book that every Star Trek fan should read. Every Leonard Nimoy fan should read. I was saddened when he passed. But the joy he brought to us in film will live on. Live Long and Prosper.

I listened to this as an audiobook. I could happily listen to William Shatner read the phone book, and for a few moments in this book, it felt like that is what he was doing. Leonard starred in this show with these actors and this director, etc. However, most of this book is a loving tribute to a friend. If you love Spock, you'll love this book.

really enjoyed this book.
