I kept waiting and waiting for something of substance or emotion to happen and it never did. Even the things that were supposed to be substantial or emotional failed to land. Constanta lacks all personality and the choice to use second person to address the Dracula character fails to be interesting after about 10 pages.

I absolutely adored this book so much, that I ended up inhaling it in such a short period of time. The premise, the structure of the prose, the characterisation of the brides; it’s all done so well and it’s probably one of my favourite reads of the year.
The entire structure of the book through Constanta’s eyes being in the second person addressed to her “Dracula” was so clever, and I never felt it took me out of the flow at any point. Her journey of being preyed on and coming to fight her abuser was well paced, and I absolutely loved seeing the dynamics changing once Magdalena and Alexi were introduced into the mix.
This was definitely very much worth the hype, and I can see myself trying to scout this in person just so I can have a physical copy to re-read.

Iiiiiiiit’s just not for me! I love the original Dracula. I love the idea of a story told from the perspective of Dracula’s wives. I am just not used to reading such romantic text with sex and love. The writing was good, the story was fine, and most characters made me roll my eyes. i think if you like gothic fiction and romance, you will disagree with my low rating.
