Damn. What a ride that was. My only complaint was I want to know more after the epilogue! Such a fanatic trip that now fills in the blanks on so many pop culture references. But holy bajeezus. The internal dialogue contrasting the actions of Louis and the other characters is perfect and the constant plot hooks to drag the reader on the line was made it hard to put down. You knew what was coming. You knew what was lurking behind the next page, but, maybe, just maybe that wasn't it, that you had to keep reading was the only choice left to know for sure.... The story of a man and a strange powerful burial ground that may have supernatural powers drew me to it like the road drew Church the cat and others. One of the most addicting reads I've had in a while, HIGHLY recommend!

This was my very first Stephen King book and it left me with a weird feeling. On the one hand I was completely hooked, I couldn't physically put this down and I just HAD to keep reading til the end. But on the other hand I feel like the horror elements were completely overhyped and exaggerated (at least to my standard of horror). The build up can feel slow, but I learned to actually enjoy it later on.

Even though I am giving it 4 stars (cause honestly it deserves it, the book is GOOD), I can't bring myself to call it a horror novel, it just feels like a thriller with *some* horror elements on the last 80ish pages, and imo the horror was not even that much. For me, personally, it was not gut wrenching, it didn't make me wanna hide it in a drawer and forget about it, it didn't give me nightmares or any of the things the author himself mentioned. I found it very predictable and unsurprising. I hated the male characters (except for Steve, I guess), they were all quite unlikeable. And oh my god please stop talking about sex and breasts, we get it, you like boobs move ON.

I am ranting a lot but I genuinely had an amazing time reading this, it was honestly perfect for the road trip I was in and for reading at night with all the lights off lol. The ambiance was peak, I have said it before but I wanna remark that it was physically impossible to let go of this book, kept me up til 3am just to finish it cause I *had* to know and I had to keep reading (maybe the spirits took hold of me now) I loved the Pet Sematary, I wished the whole Wendigo thing has been more explored but nevertheless it was absolutely peak and I really wanna read more stuff by King.

The stage was set from the beginning of the novel and the anticipation of what was to come was burning throughout the entire story. A haunting tale that gave me chills on several occasions. King is the best at putting you inside a character's head and here where a horrific choice is the driving force of the story, it is crucial that you deeply know what is motivating and effecting this choice.
